North West Chocolate Festival, the largest bean to bar gathering in the world

The cold wet overcast city of Seattle, is strategically placed on the Pacific coast making it convenient for shipping to other countries like Asia which has helped the development of the city. Seattle is a very progressive and diverse city and is always moving forward. Just like the chocolate business. It is always becoming more innovative which is why Seattle is the perfect location and home to the largest gathering of chocolate artisanal makers in the world.

‘’The NorthWest Chocolate Festival”

The festival is held at the Bell Harbor Conference Center located on Pier 66 overlooking the water. Divided between two floors, we found chocolate machinery and equipment as well as cocoa producers and chocolate vendors.

On the second floor was a conference room which for two days it held professional chocolate presentations such as The Criollo Cacao Project, Building a Sustainable Chocolate Company, Cacao Agroforestry To Restore Biodiversity, and many more interesting topics of the chocolate fair trade world. For the past 15 years this event has been the largest bean to bar artisanal chocolate trade show in the all North America which helps promote chocolate businesses from around the globe.

Since 2008 the festival has awarded the top chocolate makers and confectioners in the world with awards. This is one of the longest running award programs in the world for artisan chocolate, this is one of the most recognized awards in the bean to bar chocolate makers, setting standards and reputation for the lucky winners. They evaluate chocolates from around the world. With over 300 entries in dark chocolate, more than 200 entries for inclusions, and 100 entires in milk chocolate, each year they find the best chocolate handcrafted by artisans from more than 30 countries. The NW Chocolate & Chocolate Alliance Awards are coveted by professionals and are held in the highest esteem as a mark of quality.

More than 100 artisanal chocolatiers from around the world showcase their products, all different forms of chocolate. Focusing on primarily bean to bar we found chocolatiers like: Green bean to bar chocolate (from Japan), OmNom (from Reykjavik), Dandelion, Barcelona Chocolate Company (from Spain), Green to Bar, Scharffen Berger, and Cuna De Piedra (from Mexico).

Each participant brought their chocolate bars to sell, and to share their knowledge with the participants that visited the festival about chocolate and shared the love for good made chocolate.
